The FOLD - Hope lives here!

New Road Missions’ children’s home in South Africa, affectionately known as The Fold, rescues children from their poverty stricken, abusive circumstances, and provides them with a safe home, nutritious meals, and a Christian education. We provide all this in a protected, encouraging, fun environment where they can heal from their trauma, grow in their relationship with Jesus and others, and dream about the future God has for them. There are two main ways we impact the children at The Fold. We currently have 4 houses with 8-10 kids in each, and one house mom. This allows us to model a healthy family environment as much as possible. And we have The Fold Academy, with education from pre-school through high school where the students are taught a Biblically based curriculum, with certified and dedicated teachers.

The Fold’s His- Story -

The Fold Children’s Home was started in 2009 by two Americans, Paul & Micky Prince, who felt God calling them to South Africa to start a Children’s Home. Micky was retired military, and Paul was a retired postal worker but God had bigger plans than a porch with a pair of rocking chairs. In their retirement, Paul & Micky followed God to South Africa. God opened doors that led the way for the Princes to purchase property and began taking in children in 2010. God moved in people’s hearts to donate money for furnishings, supplies, food and monthly operating expenses. Micky and Paul had researched children’s homes and based on a concept first tried out in Sweden, developed a series of smaller homes for the children, where each house accommodates 8 children of varying ages and the children are looked after by a house mother. The Fold continued to grow and by 2018 they had four ‘homes’.

As the number of children increased, it was becoming difficult to take the children to public schools, so the decision was made to build a facility that would allow for home schooling to take place on the premises. This also allowed a better quality education based on Biblically based curriculum to be taught. The learning center was opened January of 2016.

In 2019, after a health crisis, Paul and Micky decided it was time to return home to care for their aging parents as well as on going care for Micky’s health issues. They had feared they would have to close The Fold. But God has a way of making connections with people for His purposes. Over the years, many visitors came to The Fold. New Road Missions brought several groups to minister to the children. Because of their history, Micky reached out to the founder of New Road Missions, Jim Walter, to see if they might be interested in taking over management of The Fold. After prayer and discussion with the NRM board, they decided to take on the management of The Fold Children’s Home.

New Road Missions now manages The Fold Children’s Home and has a vision for growing The Fold from 31 children to rescuing 100 children over the next three years. We are excited to meet the new children that God wants to rescue.

We are grateful to Paul & Micky for following The Lord’s call and starting this amazing ministry to children who need desperately to be rescued and who need the hope of Jesus Christ to thrive personally and eternally!
